Year 10 DofE Expedition 2026

Posted: 12.06.26

Over the past three days, 24 Year 10 students have successfully completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award expedition, demonstrating resilience, teamwork and determination throughout the challenge.

The expedition began with a full day of training, where students developed essential navigation skills, learnt about the Countryside Code and practised vital campcraft techniques in preparation for their assessed expedition.

On the second day, students embarked on six hours of walking through the countryside, facing a remarkable variety of weather conditions including torrential rain, hail and bright sunshine. Despite the challenging conditions, every group showed outstanding resilience and determination. After completing their walk, students pitched their tents, cooked their own evening meals and settled in for the night, putting into practice the skills they had learnt during training.

The final day saw the groups leave Hudnall Park and make their way towards Ashridge before finishing at Berkhamsted Station. Although tired and walking in continual rain, students continued to arrive at each checkpoint with smiles on their faces, and every group successfully completed the expedition.

The feedback from the expedition instructors was exceptional. One commented that it was "some of the best engagement and enthusiasm I've seen on any expedition," while another remarked, "The kids were incredible – a credit to themselves, their parents and the school, and should be very proud."

Our Year 10 students should be immensely proud of what they have achieved. They are now completing the final sections of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award and should receive their certificates shortly. Many are already looking ahead to the exciting opportunity of progressing to the Silver Award.
